Judith Lichtenberg

Executive Director
Judith Lichtenberg is the Executive Director of the Global Network Initiative. She brings to GNI extensive experience from her private sector career in telecommunications and her work with civil society on behalf of human rights.
Before joining the GNI, Judith was Head of Regulatory Affairs & Digital Rights at Vodafone Netherlands in Amsterdam, where she worked in a variety of roles since 2008. At Vodafone Netherlands, she previously served as Head of Privacy & Sustainability and before that as Head of Legal Affairs. Prior to joining Vodafone in 2008, she was Executive Director of the Lawyers for Lawyers Foundation, a Dutch NGO on whose board she continues to serve. Her international human rights experience includes serving as an international election observer in Ukraine and Armenia, and as a law clerk with the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.

Lisl Brunner

Facilitator, Telecommunications Industry Dialogue
Prior to joining GNI, Lisl spent five years as a staff attorney at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.  In her most recent post at the Office of the Special Rappporteur for Freedom of Expression, she monitored issues related to freedom of expression in Latin America and worked on projects to define Inter-American standards on freedom of expression and the Internet and to strengthen international mechanisms to protect journalists.  Lisl also worked on cases and urgent measures before the Inter-American system involving counter-terrorism and human rights, the rights of indigenous peoples, and the death penalty. Lisl teaches a Human Rights Practicum at Georgetown University Law Center, has published several articles on human rights issues, and is active in the American Society of International Law. She is a fluent Spanish speaker and holds a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor’s degree from the College of William & Mary.

Kath Cummins

Director of Communications & Outreach
Kath is responsible for GNI’s outreach to policymakers, stakeholders, funders and the media. She comes to GNI after working as a print and broadcast journalist, magazine editor and communications advisor, in the United States, the UK, China and Australia.
Prior to GNI, she was the Director of Public Affairs at the Washington DC-based National Center for Victims of Crime. As well as fundraising and managing a Department of Justice grant project, she raised the profile of emerging crime issues such as identity theft, DNA databases, financial fraud, online stalking and child exploitation.
Before moving to the United States, Kath was the Media and Policy Advisor to the Australian High Commission in London. She lived and worked in China for nine years, editing a bilingual magazine and freelancing for publications including The Financial TimesThe Economist Intelligence Unit, and The South China Morning Post. Kath presented a regular Australian public radio program out of Beijing and Shanghai between 2004-2009. She began her career reporting on anti-trust, corporate regulation, competition policy and infrastructure for The Australian Financial Review.
Kath has degrees in Classics and Law from the Australian National University in Canberra.
